LOCAL DETAILS THAT MATTERHome systems for
Home systems for
Gilroy's heat.
Gilroy gets less afternoon ocean air than cities to its north, so July and August highs average in the high 80s and 100-degree days come every year. Cooling, panels and appliances all work harder here.
01
Housing stock
Gilroy grew fastest from the 1950s through the 1980s, so ranch homes from that era sit alongside historic houses on Fifth Street and later tract homes in Eagle Ridge and Glen Loma Ranch.
02
Panels and wiring
Older homes often have 100-amp service. The City of Gilroy points to studies showing most homes can electrify on 100 amps with careful planning, so a load calculation comes before any upgrade.
03
Utility and incentives
Gilroy is a Silicon Valley Clean Energy community, with PG&E delivering power. SVCE lists rebates for heat pump HVAC, heat pump water heaters, induction and related wiring. Confirm current terms with SVCE before you buy.

GOOD TO KNOW
Gilroy questions, answered.
Can a heat pump keep a Gilroy home cool in a heat wave?
A correctly sized heat pump cools the same way a central AC does. HAXX sizes it from the house itself, including insulation, windows and sun exposure, so it can carry the hottest afternoons.
Who provides electricity in Gilroy, and are there rebates?
Gilroy is served by Silicon Valley Clean Energy for generation, with PG&E handling delivery. SVCE lists rebates for heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, induction cooking and some wiring. Terms change, so check SVCE before you sign.
Will my panel handle an EV charger?
Often it will. The City of Gilroy asks for an electrical load calculation with every residential EV charger permit, and that calculation shows whether the existing panel has room.
Which permits does Gilroy require?
Furnace and water heater replacements, and extensions of electrical or mechanical systems, need a permit. Applications go through the City's GO Permit online system, and the work is inspected when done.
