Portola Valley is a rural town of large lots, oak woodland and hillside roads. The Town estimates about 60% of its area lies in high or very high fire hazard zones, which affects outages and backup power planning.
Large custom homes on lots of 2.5 acres or more in Westridge, 205 clustered homes in Portola Valley Ranch, and hillside houses in Alpine Hills, often with studios and barns.
Long feeders to outbuildings and subpanels are common. Under the Town's 2022 reach code, a main panel upgrade must reserve space for future electric loads.
WestLight Energy (formerly Peninsula Clean Energy) supplies electricity and PG&E delivers it. WestLight lists rebates for heat pumps that replace gas equipment.
