LOCAL DETAILS THAT MATTERWorking on
Working on
Novato homes.
Novato grew quickly after World War II and incorporated in 1960, then added homes on the former Hamilton Air Force Base decades later. Each era brings its own HVAC and wiring needs.
01
Housing stock
Postwar tracts, mid-century modern neighborhoods like Lynwood Park and Orchard Park, waterfront homes in Bel Marin Keys and larger lots in Indian Valley.
02
Panels and power
Novato's EV charger guideline sizes the main breaker to household load. Older services often need a load check, and PSPS shutoffs make backup power a common request.
03
MCE and incentives
MCE supplies electricity in Novato, with PG&E delivery. MCE offers heat pump HVAC and water heater rebates. Confirm current terms with MCE.

GOOD TO KNOW
Novato questions, answered.
Should I switch to a heat pump in Novato?
If your furnace or AC is aging, a heat pump replaces both. BAAQMD limits on new gas furnace sales begin in 2029, and MCE offers heat pump rebates.
Who supplies electricity and rebates in Novato?
MCE generates the power and PG&E delivers it. MCE lists heat pump incentives, and Marin County's Electrify Marin rebate has closed. Confirm eligibility with MCE.
Will my Novato panel support an EV charger?
HAXX completes Novato's load worksheet first. A Level 2 charger needs an electrical permit and inspection, and a small main breaker may mean a service upgrade.
How do permits work in Novato?
Applications go through the city's online Novato Permits portal. Contractors need a City of Novato business license, and HAXX schedules inspections.
