Load calculation and sizing
Equipment is sized to the house, not to the old furnace label. Oversized systems short cycle and cost more.

Heat pump installation,
planned properly.
A heat pump replaces a furnace and AC with one system for heating and cooling. Good results come from sizing, layout and electrical planning done before equipment is ordered.
Ducted or ductless
Keep existing ducts when they are in good shape, or go ductless where ducts are missing, leaky or impossible to run.
Electrical capacity check
HAXX electricians review the panel and service before the install, so a surprise panel upgrade does not appear mid-project.
Brands we install
Mitsubishi Electric and American Standard systems, among others, matched to the home and budget.
Permits and inspection
HAXX pulls the mechanical and electrical permits and meets the city inspector.
Rebate paperwork
We point you to the rebates your address qualifies for and provide the equipment documentation programs ask for.
EL CERRITO DETAILSPlanning an El Cerrito
Planning an El Cerrito
heat pump.
El Cerrito's 2024 Climate Action and Adaptation Plan lists community building electrification among its actions, and MCE supplies the city's electricity. A heat pump fits both directions.
01
Permit path
The Building Division lists HVAC and furnace work as over-the-counter permits and publishes an HVAC/furnace checklist. HAXX files through eTRAKiT and handles the inspection.
02
Incentives
MCE and BayREN both run home energy programs, and The Switch Is On lists incentives by zip code. Check current heat pump terms before signing a contract.
03
Gas equipment timeline
Bay Area Air District rules limit sales of new gas furnaces made after 2028. Repairs are not affected, but it matters for your next replacement.

GOOD TO KNOW
Heat Pump Installation in El Cerrito: questions, answered.
Which permits does a heat pump need in El Cerrito?
A mechanical permit, plus electrical work when a new circuit or panel change is involved. HAXX applies through the City of El Cerrito's eTRAKiT portal and meets the inspector.
Who offers heat pump incentives in El Cerrito?
MCE, the city's electricity provider, and BayREN run home energy programs, and The Switch Is On lists incentives by zip code. Terms change, so confirm before you sign.
Can a heat pump heat my house on cold nights?
Yes. Bay Area winters are mild, and correctly sized heat pumps heat comfortably through them. Sizing and duct condition matter more than the brand.
How long does an installation take?
Most single-system replacements take one to three days on site. Permits, equipment lead times and any electrical work add to the overall timeline.
